What is ADAS?
Advanced driver safety: where cutting-edge technology meets the road to keep you safe, using smart systems that think faster than you can blink.
What are the Features Of ADAS?
-
The forward-facing camera in the windshield detects abrupt lane changes and events in the lane in front of you.
Forward Collision Warning (FCW): Alerts the driver of an impending collision with a vehicle or object ahead, allowing time to react1.
-
Automatic Emergency Braking is also apart of the system some systems including Subaru Eye Sight. Once the camera in the windshield detects that a vehicle is too close the brake will engage, keeping the driver safe.
Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB): Automatically applies the brakes to prevent or mitigate a collision if the driver doesn’t respond to warnings2.
-
Lane Keep Assistance guides the drivers steering wheel once the camera in the windshield detects the driver is veering into another lane.
Lane Keeping Assistance (LKA): Provides gentle steering inputs to help keep the vehicle centered in its lane2.
Is Recalibration Recommended?
While windshield recalibrations are essential for ensuring the accuracy of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), they are not always foolproof. Factors such as improper installation, sensor malfunctions, or environmental conditions can affect the recalibration and the process, leading to potential inaccuracies. However, it’s important to note that vehicles do not rely on ADAS for safety. Safety features like seat belts, airbags, anti-lock braking systems (ABS) and Vehicle speed sensor (VSS) are sensors that ADAS heavily rely on to protect you on the road. Therefore, while recalibrations enhance the functionality of modern safety systems, they are not the sole determinants of road safety.
